1 Day: Dry Season – June to October 2015
Join Top End Explorer Tours on a 4 wheel-drive adventure and discover Kakadu’s breathtakingly beautiful Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls. Join a small group of like-minded travellers on this adventurous 1 day 4WD safari to the edge of the impressive Arnhemland escarpment. Experience Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls, two world renowned icons of the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park.
Tours operate in the dry season and the first stage of the wet season only, generally from the months of June to October, conditions permitting. Come the deluges of the ‘wet’, vast areas of Kadadu become inaccessible by road.

Sit back with a hot cuppa on the white sandy beach beside the magnificent Twin Falls – it’s a photographer’s heaven! Swimming is not permitted in the gorge of Twin Falls.
Our adventure continues with a bushwalk (2km return) along Jim Jim Creek. The shady monsoonal rainforest reveals some of its secrets. Be rewarded for hiking over large rocks and boulders into the gorge with a scrumptious picnic lunch and a refreshing swim in the cool, clear waters under the towering cliffs of Jim Jim Falls.
The amount of water flowing over Jim Jim Falls depends on seasonal conditions. Rest assured, a sheer drop of over 200m is always an awesome sight, with our without water tumbling over the edge of the cliff!
We recommend that you read Kakadu National Park’s official information on visitor safety and responsibilities.
We reserve the right to alter the itinerary, subject to cultural and seasonal conditions, water levels and Kakadu National Park rangers’ progress with annual mandatory crocodile surveys in the early dry season. Please refer to information on our Kakadu Stone Country 4WD Day Tour for alternative touring.
The health and safety of our passengers is our highest priority!
The walks on this day tour are challenging, they rate from moderate to difficult!
A high level of agility, balance and fitness are required to climb over rocks, which can be slippery with water and sand and have uneven surfaces. There are no formed walkways or hand rails – this is Nature!
Tours depart 5 days a week (except on Mondays and Thursdays) from June to October/ November. We travel with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 7 passengers, itinerary subject to accessibility. If Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls are closed due to seasonal conditions, we visit other worthwhile destinations instead. Your guide will collect you from your accommodation:
- Township of Jabiru at 06:45 or
- Kakadu Lodge Cooinda (Home of Yellow Waters) at 07:30.
It’s worth getting up early to see these two Kakadu “must-dos”!
We return to your accommodation from approximately 17:00.
We reserve the right to alter the itinerary, subject to cultural and seasonal conditions, water levels and Kakadu National Park rangers’ progress with annual mandatory crocodile surveys in the early dry season.
Please take the time to read our Kakadu Stone Country 4WD Day Tour (early dry season) itinerary and observe our terms and conditions!
We also reserve the right to cancel all tours due to hot weather conditions in the late dry season. The mean maximum temperature for Jabiru in October is 37.6 deg. In the sandstone gorges of Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls shade is sparse and temperatures often reach 45 degrees and above.
Don’t miss the exciting opportunity to visit one of Kakadu’s hidden gems that can be accessed by permit only: From June to September, Mondays and Thursdays are Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge) days!
If you require any additional information or would like to enquire about group travel or private charter tours, please use the enquiry form on our Contact page and we will get back to you ASAP!
