Spectacular Stone Country
Join a small group of like-minded travellers on this adventurous 1 day 4WD safari to the edge of the impressive Arnhemland escarpment. Experience the Jim Jim Falls and the Twin Falls, two world renowned icons of the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park.
- Travel through the Savannah woodlands of Kakadu, which have more diversity than you’d ever expect!
- Share your guide’s knowledge of Kakadu National Park with its changing landscapes, flora and fauna.
- Discover the astonishing variety of bush tucker and potent medicine plants.
- Let your guide introduce you to Bininj, the local Aboriginal culture, and the history of the area.
Start with a bushwalk (2km return) along Jim Jim Creek. The shady monsoonal rainforest reveals some of its secrets. Be rewarded for hiking over large rocks and boulders into the gorge with a refreshing swim in the cool, clear waters under the towering cliffs of Jim Jim Falls.
Sit back with a hot cuppa or explore the area around the beach pool and the plunge pool – it’s a photographer’s heaven!
The amount of water flowing over Jim Jim Falls depends on seasonal conditions. Rest assured, a sheer drop of 220m is always an awesome sight, with our without water tumbling over the edge of the cliff!
Our journey continues with an adventurous drive towards Twin Falls. A short boat trip into Twin Falls Gorge and a stroll over rocks and sand (1km return) along the edge of Twin Falls Creek leads us to the base of the falls.
Try catching a glimpse of the timid Freshwater Crocodile basking in the sun or spot a Pig-nosed Turtle in the clear water of the creek.
Take a break and enjoy a freshly prepared picnic lunch on the white sandy beach beside the magnificent Twin Falls.
Swimming is currently not permitted in the gorge of Twin Falls. We recommend that you read Kakadu National Park’s official information on visitor safety and responsibilities.
During the cooler months of the dry season your guide may take you on the Twin Falls escarpment walk (6km return) as an alternative to the trip into the gorge. This decision depends on the fitness level of all participants, the seasonal conditions, and is made subject to guide’s discretion.
The initial climb up the Twin Falls escarpment is a steep and challenging marked walking track. You will discover that the scenery atop of the Arnhemland escarpment is breathtakingly beautiful! Cool down in the clear waters above the waterfalls and experience the awe of Kakadu’s rugged stone country!
As this walk is best attempted first thing in the morning, making our visit to Jim Jim Falls in the afternoon.
